Kalpitiya peninsula in Sri Lanka is a beautiful coastal area located on the northwestern tip of the island. Here are some of the main attractions of Kalpitiya:

  1. Kitesurfing: Kalpitiya is known as one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world due to its consistent winds and flat water lagoons. The kitesurfing season runs from May to October, attracting kiteboarders from all over the world.

  2. Dolphin and Whale Watching: Kalpitiya is one of the best places in Sri Lanka for dolphin and whale watching. The area is home to several species of dolphins, including spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and Risso’s dolphins, as well as occasional sightings of sperm whales and blue whales.

  3. Turtle watching: The virgin beach from Alankuda to St. Anne shrine in Thalawila (around Dune Towers resort) is frequently visited by Green Turtles and other species to lay their eggs. 

  4. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving: Kalpitiya has some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving spots in Sri Lanka, with a variety of colorful coral reefs and diverse marine life.

  5. Wilpattu National Park: Located about an hour’s drive from Kalpitiya, Wilpattu National Park is one of the largest national parks in Sri Lanka and home to a diverse range of wildlife, including leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and various species of birds.

  6. Dutch Fort: Kalpitiya was once a strategic port for the Dutch during the colonial era, and the area has several historic sites, including a Dutch fort built in the 17th century.

  7. Sand dunes: Around Dune Towers resort there is unique area of Sand Dunes going along the coast from coconut estates to Indian Ocean.

  8. Mangroves and Lakes: The peninsula is home to several lakes and inland lagoons which host mangrove forests and plenty of starks, egrets and waders.

  10. Baobab tree: After short boat trip towards you can reach ancient elephant tree.
